SOLUDO MOVES TO SECURE MASTER PLAN FOR WATER IN ANAMBRA STATE

In avowed determination of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to provide portable water solution innovation for citizens, the Conduct of Hydrogeological and Hydrological Mapping and Modelling for Water Source Potentials in Anambra State has been flagged-off.

The event which took place at Aroma Overhead Reservoir, Ifite Road, Awka is a partnership between the Ministry of Power and Water Resources and Tona Geological Consultants (Consortium) Nig. Ltd.

The official flag-off of the mapping which is a fulfilment of a major manifesto promise of Governor Soludo, will provide a baseline data to aid the development of a master plan for proper planning because valuable insights will be gained into the quantity, quality and distribution of ground and surface water across the various aquifers, allowing for informed decisions regarding water resource management and development in the state.
Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka said that the project goes beyond drilling boreholes and installing water pumps, stating that the baseline data they collect will serve as a foundation for evidence-based planning, policy formulation and sustainable water resource management.
"We are working with three documents, including Soludo Manifesto, Anambra Vision 2070 Report and the Transition Committee Report.

"This water project will help us to plan well and properly allocate the meagre resources we have in the state", the Commissioner added.

Revealing the Governor's Plan for restoring water in the state, the Managing Director, Anambra State Urban Assets Holding Corporation, Mr. Ikeobi Ejiofor reiterated that water is an essential commodity which explains the reason behind the Governor's support for the project.
He called for all hands to be on deck by protecting the water facilities in their locations, to make water available in the homes, stating that at the long run, water will be available in Ifite, some parts of Okpuno, Agụ Awka and environs, as well as across the state.

In their respective goodwill messages, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike and the Chairman, Anambra State House Committee On Power and Water Resources, Hon. Emma Nwafor,
spoke on safety of water, asked the international community to partner the state on water, pointing out that the Governor is looking for support from private partners.
Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Uzoka, Acting Director, Water Department, Mr. Victor Ezekwo, among others, attended the function.
